NORDIC NEST – Corbeanca Extreme Makeover
Single-family dwelling near Bucharest, resulting from the radical transformation of an existing house, which was completely reinterpreted, preserving only its “bones” and its relationship to the plot. The intervention aimed primarily to bring the house into a contemporary ground, both aesthetically and functionally. The original layout of the house was largely maintained, while extensions were added to both the front and rear, and the façades were redesigned through a new concept of openings and finishes.
The architectural approach aligns with our vision regarding the reuse and recontextualization, to the greatest possible extent, of existing elements—whether buildings or small-scale objects.
The new architecture is based on a clear interplay of volumes, strong lines, and contemporary materials. The contrast between dark, metal-clad surfaces and timber cladding adds depth to the façades and creates a coherent, modern yet balanced image. The gabled roof is reinterpreted in a minimalist key, becoming the unifying element of the overall composition.
The main façade is conceived as a sequence of controlled planes that ensure privacy from the street while allowing generous openness towards the interior. Large glazed openings bring natural light into the living spaces and establish a direct connection with the garden.
